*Not my actual calaca* (mine got thrown away this is what looked the most like it)
Project Decription We started off this project by learning about day of the dead or also known as Día de los muertos. After learning all about day of the dead by watching various videos, our task became to write a poem in Spanish about a loved one, family member, or pet that had pass away (I chose to do my project on my Dog).We also were assigned the task to make a calaca representing this person or animal. We made our calacas which are like little figurines out of wire, then we paper mache over the wire, and finally we painted it white and painted them to look like little happy, colorful skeletons. We finished off the project by writing multiple drafts of our poem until it was perfected. Overall I really enjoyed this project , and a great time exhibiting it with my peers.
learned so much through-out this project. I learned so much about day of the dead, before this project I really didn't know very much about it at all. I also learned man vocabulary words in spanish, how to pronounce many words, a lot of information I didn't know about my grandfather, and just in general how to write a great poem in Spanish! I thought the exhibition was great, so many people showed up it was Insane. The building was a little to small for so many people, but besides that I really enjoyed reading my poem to so many people, and telling them about my grandfather. The most challenging part of this project for me was figuring out how to pronounce a lot of new vocabulary words correctly. I found making my calaca the most enjoyable part of this project. I really like to do arts and crafts type projects. If I could go back I would make sure I knew how to pronounce my whole poem correctly before the exhibition. It was rather embarrassing when I stumbled on words. I am very proud of my poem I spent a long time revising and editing it. I tried my hardest to portrayed my grandpa exactly how I remember him , and how he is portrayed in the stories I hear about him.
