¿Por Qué Español?The reason that I’m taking Spanish II is because I would like to learn Italian. Spanish and Italian are very similar and learning one will help me learn the other language faster. It’s very beautiful that way. I would love to live in Italy for a while when I am older. Also learning a different language can help prevent dementia in old people. In the article Why Bilinguals Are Smarter by Grey Matter he eloquently states, “-measured through a comparative evaluation of proficiency in each language — were more resistant than others to the onset of dementia and other symptoms of Alzheimer’s disease: the higher the degree of bilingualism, the later the age of onset. I learned that from the article. Learning Spanish would benefit my mental health, life goals, and more.

Park Elementary School Reflection
In my Spanish two class we went to Park Elementary School to read to the children. In class, we were weekly tested on out Spanish speaking skills. After the first two test, the project was presented to us. First things first, we had to choose a child to read to. There were children from every grade however, what they all have in common is that English is their second language. Then we picked out a book to read to them in Spanish. The books were influenced by the age of the student.
My book was originally for a kindergartner however. I was reassigned a partner. So I didn't have a book to read to her. she was such a sweetheart. She ended up reading to me. We played hide-and-go-seek, "find the tree" and other little games.
I ate lunch with her and went to classes with her, etc. She was very shy at first but she quickly warmed up to me. She was talking to me more than the other kids in the school. She was telling her mother about me, and she wanted to meet me. On the last day she got sad because I wouldn't be there anymore so I gave her my email so we could stay in contact. She is such a shy girl, she actually reminded me of myself in elementary school. I was shy, loved dogs, and wanted to be an artist. So did she. She was an exceptionally gifted with language arts and social studies. Brianna is very advanced for her age. She spoke VERY good Spanish. (obviously) And she also spoke better English than I do.
She has to deal with so many things at her young age and she is handling gracefully. She has the regular elementary school problems and also had to learn and remember a second language Basically I learned that I should suck it up and realize that I shouldn't be complaining. If I could go back I would talk with her more and try to understand her life more. She is very interesting.
My take away from this project was that other younger kids are learning a second language with out complaining. She was really inspiring to me. I would have loved to go to more art classes with her to she her talent. I'm very happy with the way the project turned out.
