Seminar Prewrite1. What is the overall message of BNW? I think it is about how science and advances in technology can destroy People... Like the morals and stuff in side up.. I think in real life it is actually happening. The advances in genetics can make people control weather they have a son of daughter. What color you want you childs hair to be, eye color, height, Etc.
2. Is bnw a utopia or a dystopia? I think it is a dystopia because it is a fiction book and its supposed to be a perfect society but there are a lot of underground things going on 3. What does John mea by saying nothing in civilization mean by saying that nothing in society cost enough? I think he means like nothing cost enough to make you work for it. Like get the satisfaction of actually earning it. Struggles build character. 4. How much of our society do you think is focused on comfort and how much do you think is focused on truth and beauty? I think we are are our civilization is way too focused on that comfort.. a lot more than I’d like to admit.. O.o I think we are socialize to see beauty as like a face on the TV. The faces that I see on commercials and tv shows aren’t even real... Only the mug shots on the new are. truthfully..I don’t think we’re really focused on truth or beauty really at all? 95% comfort 5% truth and beauty. |
The Outsiders Reflection I don’t know who’s comment this was but It really made me think, the comment was “I think Ponyboy is the outsider” Now that that I look back on the book I can see what he or she was talking about. Since Ponyboy is younger he feels like he has more to prove. He’s supposed to be tough and all but he likes to read and look at sunsets. I really liked that person’s perspective on that idea.
I don’t really have any connections to this book but at one point someone started talking about the wealth inequality between the soc’s and the greasers. I started thinking about the 99% and who the 1% sometimes thinks that the 99% chose that life. But what some of the soc’s don’t really take into consideration is that a lot of them are born into the greaser life and they don’t have as many opportunities to change that, if any. I personally don’t think I did very well in this seminar. I felt that everything I said what irrelevant or I was annoying everyone with my comments. Also, I don’t think the way I was talking was very professional. I felt like I was demonstrating active listening though. I don’t know the specific line but It was something like “I think Ponyboy trys to look like a greasers but then get good grade, stay in school, and is more sensitive than the other greasers to challenge the Soc’s assumptions.” The book never really said anything about this issue really, but maybe that’s what he’s trying to do or maybe he’s just trying to be like Sodapop. I don’t know for sure though. |
